Winterhalder & Hofmeier Gothic Arch Mantel Clock – Antique German Bim Bam

Sale price$1,894.00

Collector note: This clock is offered in original, unmodified condition, as preferred by many advanced Winterhalder & Hofmeier collectors.

A high-grade late-Victorian mantel clock by Winterhalder & Hofmeier of Schramberg, Germany—one of the most respected precision clockmakers of the 19th century.

This Gothic arch mantel clock, dating to circa 1890–1905, is offered in exceptional original condition, retaining its authentic movement, case, dial, and gong.

Presented unserviced but currently running, this piece is intentionally preserved for collectors who value originality over modern intervention.

This is not a mass-produced German mantel clock. Winterhalder & Hofmeier supplied movements to elite English and European retailers and are widely regarded as producing some of the finest precision movements of their era.

Chime / Strike Details

This clock features a traditional bim-bam strike movement with graduated quarter indication. It sounds one gong at the 15-minute mark, two gongs at the 30-minute mark, and three gongs at the 45-minute mark, followed by the full hour strike. This is not a Westminster or triple-chime movement, but a correct and period-appropriate striking configuration for high-quality late-19th-century German mantel clocks.

🏛️ Summary

A museum-quality late-Victorian mantel clock by one of Germany’s finest clockmakers. Honest, original, elegant, and increasingly difficult to find in this condition.

If you’re seeking a true collector-grade antique, this piece delivers.

VIDEO & STRIKE SEQUENCE on YouTube

You will hear the clock strike at 15 minutes past, again at half past, again at quarter to the hour, and finally deliver the full hour strike at the top of the hour (8 o’clock in the video). This reflects the movement progressing naturally toward the hour rather than a true quarter-chiming complication; the clock strikes the hour only.
