STEM clock kits for schools, camps & makerspaces
Bring gears, spring energy, and pendulum motion into the classroom with the Hermle Lakin Clock Kit. Students assemble a working, hand-wound desk clock they can see, study, and use.
For schools, camps, clubs, and homeschool groups.
From components to a working clock
The Lakin's open skeleton design keeps the mechanism visible. Students can follow how the parts work together as they build the clock, then observe the movement while it runs.
The project includes gears and the mainspring, movement plates, pendulum, dial and hands, aluminum pillars, acrylic plates, and hardware. The kit also includes a screwdriver, wrench, winding key, and clock oil.
School and program pricing is quoted for your quantity. Availability and shipping are confirmed before you schedule your build.
Ideas for STEM & STEAM learning
The learning can continue after the last screw is in place. The Lakin's open movement lets students examine the gears, watch the pendulum, and connect the parts they assembled to a working mechanism.
Use the clock as a starting point for questions about motion, energy, and measurement. Adapt the investigation to your students and your course.

Discuss how winding stores energy in the spring and how that energy drives the clock.
Observe the pendulum, measure its swing period, and explore its role in mechanical timekeeping.
Compare the clock with a reference time, record error, and discuss the adjustments described in the instructions.
These are suggested learning activities. Hermle provides assembly instructions and a build video; educators can adapt the project to their own curriculum and learning goals.
Plan a build that fits your group
Hermle presents the Lakin kit for upper elementary, middle, and high school settings. Review the assembly instructions to decide how the build fits your students' experience, supervision, and available time.
Consider one kit per student or a build in small teams. Tell us how you plan to use the kits so your quote reflects the quantity and schedule you need.
School & program orders
