Why Replace a Clock Movement Instead of the Entire Clock?

When a cherished clock stops working, many people assume it's time to replace the entire clock. In reality, the movement—the mechanical "engine" inside the clock—is often the only part that needs attention. Replacing the movement can restore decades of reliable operation while preserving the clock you've grown to love.

At Just A Clock Collector, we specialize in genuine replacement clock movements from some of Germany's most respected manufacturers, helping collectors, clock repair professionals, and homeowners keep treasured timepieces running for generations.

What Is a Clock Movement?

A clock movement is the mechanism that powers the clock. It controls the timekeeping, drives the hands, powers the pendulum, and operates the chimes.

Over years of regular use, a movement naturally wears. Rather than replacing a beautifully crafted clock case, many owners simply replace the movement, allowing the clock to continue serving their family for decades to come.

In many cases, replacing a movement is more practical and economical than attempting a complete overhaul of a worn movement.

Why We Sell Replacement Movements

As passionate clock collectors ourselves, we've seen too many beautiful clocks discarded simply because the movement stopped working.

Many vintage and modern German clocks were built with exceptional craftsmanship. Their solid wood cases often remain in outstanding condition long after the movement has reached the end of its service life.

By offering genuine replacement movements, we help preserve these clocks instead of seeing them become decorative pieces that no longer keep time.

The Brands We Carry

We proudly offer replacement movements from four of the most respected names in German clockmaking.

Hermle

As an authorized Hermle seller, we carry genuine Hermle replacement movements for many mechanical mantel, wall, and floor clocks. Hermle movements are known for their reliability, availability, and excellent long-term parts support.

Kieninger

We are also an authorized Kieninger seller, offering factory-new replacement movements shipped directly from Germany. Kieninger movements are considered among the finest mechanical clock movements in the world and are found in many premium grandfather, wall, and table clocks.

Urgos

Urgos movements are found in many mechanical floor and wall clocks. We offer factory-new Urgos replacement movements and updated replacements for many older UW movement numbers, helping owners restore clocks whose original movements have become worn or are no longer available in their original configuration.

Regula

Regula is one of the best-known names in cuckoo clock movements. If your German cuckoo clock needs a replacement movement, we carry genuine Regula movements for many popular models.

How Do I Know Which Movement I Need?

The easiest way is to locate the model number stamped on the back plate of your existing movement.

That number tells us exactly which movement your clock was originally built with.

You'll also want to verify:

  • Pendulum length
  • Hand shaft length
  • Chime type
  • Whether the movement is spring-driven or cable-driven

If you're unsure, don't worry.

Simply send us clear photos of the back plate and movement markings, and we'll gladly help identify the correct replacement.

Why Buy From Just A Clock Collector?

Unlike many online sellers, we aren't simply listing generic replacement parts.

We understand clocks.

As an authorized Hermle and Kieninger seller, we work with genuine factory replacement movements and understand the differences between movement generations, model numbers, pendulum lengths, and chime configurations.

If you're uncertain about compatibility, we're happy to help before you order.
