Measure the space first, then compare the clock’s full height, width and depth. A wall clock needs a suitable fixing; a mantel or table clock needs a stable surface with room to reach its controls.

Choose mechanical if you enjoy a traditional mechanism and regular winding. Quartz offers the convenience of battery operation. Either can have sound features, so check the individual clock’s chimes, ticking and silence settings.
