Quartz clocks

Quartz describes the timekeeping movement, not its sound. Some second hands tick and others sweep; some clocks also have chimes or alarms. Look for an explicit silent or sweep specification if quiet operation matters.

Check the dimensions, dial legibility, battery requirements and access to the controls. For a chiming model, compare volume and silence settings. Follow the maker’s instructions when installing batteries.
