What should I measure?

Check the clock’s width and depth against the usable surface, and its height beneath any shelf or artwork. Allow access to the back or door for winding, batteries and setting the time. Keep it clear of direct heat.

Will it chime, strike or simply tell time?

A chime plays a melody; a strike marks the hour with counted sounds. A time-only model has neither, but it may still tick. Check the listing for its movement, sound features and any night-silence controls.
