The Sawmill depicts a full working day in the Black Forest. Two sawyers work a log, a woodchopper swings his axe, a mill wheel turns in the water and a horse waits before the timber cart, while dancers turn above. At 58 cm high and 49 cm wide, the clock presents this busy woodland story on an impressive scale.
Movement, sound and animation
The mechanical 8-day movement runs for a week between windings. A 22-note music box plays Edelweiss and The Happy Wanderer while the woodchopper, sawyers, coachman, mill wheel and dancers animate the scene. The cuckoo sounds on the hour and half hour, and the automatic night shut-off keeps evenings quiet.
Handcrafted in the Black Forest
The linden-wood case is painted, fitted and assembled by hand in Gütenbach, Germany. Natural variations in wood grain, color and figures are part of the character of a handmade clock, so no two examples are exactly alike. The mechanical movement carries the VdS certificate of authenticity for genuine Black Forest origin, materials and manufacture and is covered by a 24-month movement warranty.
