The Congreve – Rhodium & Carbon Fibre
The Congreve is a kinetic celebration of mechanical timekeeping, its rolling ball tracing measured arcs above three independent dials for hours, minutes and seconds. In this contemporary edition, a rhodium-plated fusee movement is set against a gloss-lacquered carbon-fibre base.
A mitred crystal-glass canopy keeps the mechanism fully visible, while blue-lacquered Breguet-style hands and silver-plated dials sharpen the modern, monochromatic presentation.
Mechanical Art in Motion
The Congreve is constructed around a handmade solid-brass eight-day fusee movement, finished by hand before receiving its rhodium plating. Comitti’s movement making is deliberately exacting: brass work is fettled and polished, pivots are burnished, and bearing holes are carefully prepared to reduce wear and encourage smooth, precise running. Nothing is hidden behind a conventional clock case; the mechanism is presented as the object itself.
The rolling ball turns the regulating action into a slow mechanical performance, travelling across the tilting table while hours, minutes and seconds are displayed separately. Beneath the mitred crystal canopy, the Congreve occupies the line between fine horology and sculpture—a clock whose movement is meant to be watched.
