Compatibility begins with the markings on the movement itself. Two movements with similar basic numbers may use different shafts, pendulum lengths, mounting points or chime configurations.

Which number should I use?

Read the full identification stamped on the movement’s back plate, including every suffix. Record the maker, pendulum-length marking and other stamped details. The case or dial brand alone may not identify the mechanism.

Is a similar-looking movement enough?

No. Confirm the hand shaft, mounting, pendulum requirements, drive and chime arrangement. Use the Movement Finder and ask about any uncertain match before ordering.
