Weight-driven or spring-driven?

A weight-driven movement uses descending weights for power; a spring-driven movement stores energy in a wound spring. Both need regular winding. Check the listed running time and allow space to reach the winding points.

Does mechanical always mean chiming?

No. A mechanical clock may be time-only, striking or chiming. Compare the sound description and any silence controls separately from the drive system.
